Programme Description This CPD programme will equip counsellors and mental health professionals with the essential knowledge and skills required to provide competent and compassionate substance abuse counselling, thereby addressing a critical need in the field of mental health counselling and addiction treatment. Participants will therefore gain a comprehensive understanding of the addiction process, and will further be equipped with needed knowledge, skills, and ethical considerations necessary to effectively assess, support, and treat individuals dealing with substance use disorders.
Programme Outcome
By the end of this CPD programme, participants shall be able to;
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the addiction process, different substances of abuse and their effects, and key challenges associated with substance use disorders.
• Conduct accurate assessments and diagnoses of substance use disorders, including the identification of key risk factors and co-occurring mental health conditions.
• Apply evidence-based therapeutic interventions tailored to clients at various stages of addiction and recovery.
• Implement harm reduction strategies and relapse prevention techniques that reduce the risk of relapse and promote sustainable recovery for clients.
