Dr. Cecilia Tutu-Danquah delivered a mental health awareness session at KTI, encouraging students to make wise decisions, take responsibility for emotional wellbeing, and practice contentment while pursuing growth.

The Principal of the TUCEE Institute of Counselling and Technology (TICT), Cecilia Tutu-Danquah, delivered an engaging session on mental health to students of Kumasi Technical Institute during a Campus Gospel Outreach Programme organized by the Pentecost Students and Associates of the Church of Pentecost, Bompata Sector.
In her presentation, Dr. Tutu-Danquah highlighted the importance of emotional wellbeing and self-awareness, encouraging students to prioritize their mental health while navigating academic and personal pressures. She urged them to seek support when facing emotional or psychological challenges and to develop healthy coping strategies that promote resilience and personal growth.
As part of her message, she outlined three key principles that can help young people maintain sound mental health.
First, she emphasized the ability to make good decisions. According to her, the choices young people make significantly influence their wellbeing, relationships, and future opportunities. Developing the discipline to think carefully before acting can help prevent many challenges that affect mental health.
Second, she reminded students that they are ultimately responsible for their mental health. While support from family, friends, teachers, and counsellors is important, individuals must intentionally nurture their own emotional wellbeing. Drawing from Romans 12:2, she encouraged them to renew their minds by focusing on positive and constructive thoughts.
Third, she advised students to be content with their present reality while working hard toward their ideal future. She cautioned against unhealthy comparisons with others, noting that contentment and gratitude can strengthen emotional stability while motivating individuals to pursue personal growth.
The session formed part of a broader Life Talks and Counselling programme during the outreach, which also addressed issues such as drug addiction and sexual purity. Dr. Tutu-Danquah’s participation reflects the commitment of the TUCEE Institute of Counselling and Technology to promoting mental health awareness and equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to build healthier lives and communities.
